Thank you for choosing the Svalto portable cold box. It uses advanced semiconductor (thermo-electric) cooling to keep insulin and other biologics safely chilled — at home, at work, in the car, or on the move. No compressor, no coolant, no noise. This guide walks you through everyday use, safe medicine storage, care, and troubleshooting.

Power it three ways

The cold box runs from three power sources. A short “beep” confirms whenever power is connected.

Mains adapter

Plug the included adapter into a wall socket. Best for continuous cooling and the fastest charging.

USB power

Run it from a laptop, phone charger, power bank, or a car USB port / adapter.

Built-in battery

Around 6–8 hours cordless (less in heat). Ideal for travel and commutes.

Controls

Power — press and hold 3 seconds. Turns the unit on and off. On start-up you’ll hear a beep and the screen shows box temperature, clock, battery level and fan status.

Set temperature. Press to adjust the target; the reading flashes while you set it. Adjustable 0–18 °C.

AUTO

One-touch 8 °C. Press once to auto-set 8 °C; the “AUTO” mark lights on the screen.

Power-saving: if you don’t press anything for 20 seconds, the screen turns off to save power. Cooling keeps running — press any key to wake the display.

Set the temperature

The cold box can be set anywhere from 0 °C to 18 °C. Press AUTO for a one-touch 8 °C, or use ▲ / ▼ to choose your own target.

For insulin and most biologics, 2–8 °C is the usual target — always follow the storage instructions printed on your medicine.

Charging the battery

Charge while ON

3–5 hrs

Cools and charges at the same time.

Charge while OFF

1–2 hrs

Faster — the unit charges only.

With both mains and battery connected, the mains supply runs the cooling and tops up the battery at the same time.
On battery power the unit runs in AUTO (8 °C) low-power mode to stretch runtime. Cooling may soften slightly, but your medicine stays protected.
Charge only with the original adapter — other chargers can damage the lithium battery.

First-time setup

Open the battery cover on the base, seat the lithium battery firmly on its connector, and close the cover.
Connect a power source and press Power (hold 3 seconds).
Press AUTO for 8 °C, or use ▲ / ▼ to set your target temperature.
Let the box reach temperature before loading medicine — cooling reaches roughly 25 °C below the surrounding air.

Storing medicine safely

Unopened insulin

2–8°C

Good until the printed expiry — up to 2 years refrigerated.

Opened / in use

~1 month

Use within about one month of first opening.

Medicine stays effectively preserved as long as the box stays below 25 °C — roughly 6 months unopened, 1 month opened.
On battery in ambient temperatures above 30 °C, or on mains above 35 °C, the box may rise above 8 °C. This is still safe as long as it stays under 25 °C.
Suitable for insulin, interferon and similar refrigerated drugs and biological agents.

This guidance is general. Always follow your doctor’s advice and the storage instructions supplied with your specific medicine.

⚠️ Important — please read

Keep it dry. Never put water or any liquid inside the box.
Keep the vents clear (base and sides). When carrying it in the backpack, line the vents up with the bag’s openings.
Never seal the unit in an airtight bag — trapped heat can overheat the unit and damage your medicine.
Use only the original adapter, especially when charging.
Travelling? Carry enough charged batteries for your trip.
On long-term mains use, remove the battery to prevent overcharge or leakage.
Not using it for a week or more? Remove the battery. In long storage, recharge the battery every 3 months to protect its life.

Troubleshooting

Nothing turns on	The adapter may be faulty — replace it with the original adapter.
No cooling at all	The cooling chip may be loose or damaged — contact support.
Shows over 30 °C	Check the fan is running and that the vents aren’t blocked.
Not cold enough	Check the set temperature; clear the vents; ambient may be above 35 °C; the lid may have been opened too often or for too long.
Screen shows E1	Temperature-sensor fault — the sensor needs replacing.
Too noisy	Check the fan for any debris.

Warranty & support

Your cold box is covered against manufacturing defects for one year from the date of purchase. Please keep your proof of purchase for any warranty service.

The warranty does not cover: damage from use that does not follow this manual; units beyond the warranty period; products repaired, modified or disassembled by unauthorised parties; and damage caused by floods, fire, earthquakes or other natural disasters, or by incorrect voltage, high heat, water ingress, corrosion or breakage.
