The short answer

Mounjaro and Zepbound (both tirzepatide, by Eli Lilly) should be refrigerated at 2–8°C (36–46°F). If you need to, a pen may be kept at room temperature — not above 30°C (86°F) — for up to 21 days total, after which it must be used or discarded. And a pen that has frozen, even briefly, must be thrown away.

Tirzepatide storage at a glance

Situation Rule
Normal storage Fridge, 2–8°C, in the original carton (light protection)
Room temperature Allowed up to 30°C for a cumulative 21 days — then discard
Above 30°C Outside the label — a hot car or summer bag can exceed this in minutes
Frozen Discard, even after thawing

Why the 21-day window is stricter than Ozempic’s

21days
Tirzepatide
Mounjaro & Zepbound
56days
Ozempic, for contrast
semaglutide, in use

Ozempic’s in-use window is 56 days; tirzepatide’s is 21 — and it’s cumulative, not per-outing. Every hour out of the fridge draws down the same budget, and nothing on the pen tells you how much you’ve spent.

If your pens routinely ride in bags, cars and hotel rooms, the honest accounting gets hard fast — which is the argument for keeping them cold instead of counting days.

Traveling with Mounjaro or Zepbound

For a weekend, an insulated pouch with a frozen cold pack buys a few safe hours. For flights, summer trips, or carrying a month’s supply, use active refrigeration: the Svalto™ Cooler Pro holds a set 2–8°C for 7–18 hours on airline-legal swappable batteries and shows the live temperature, so the 21-day clock never has to start. It fits 4 Mounjaro or Zepbound KwikPens, or 2 of the wide-cap single-dose pens.

Quick answers

Kwikpen vs single-dose pen — same rules?

Yes: 2–8°C storage, one 21-day sub-30°C allowance, never freeze. Check your carton’s label for the specifics of your presentation.

It sat in a warm car for an afternoon — now what?

Above 30°C is outside the label; don’t guess. Our hot-car guide covers what heat does to GLP-1 pens and the questions to ask your pharmacist.
